BLOOD DONORS = HEROES

“Donating blood is one of the most profound causes on the planet. It goes beyond gender, religion…anything.”
                                     -Dave Keys
Hero: someone of divine descent; possessing great strength and abilities; legendary or mythological figure. No matter how many times I checked the meaning of blood donor, I invariably got the meaning of it as “someone who gives blood to be used for transfusion”. Nothing about divine descent, great strength or abilities. If you take a look you will see that blood donors are like you and me, normal, unassuming and even quite humble people who do not possess any remarkable qualities. So how and why do we view blood donors as heroes?
Blood is so a precious fluid that every 3 seconds someone is in desperate need of blood! There are a lot of disease such as hemophilia, leukemia, and accidents etc. that require a lot of blood. There seems to be a shortage of this golden liquid. To such people getting blood is a life or death situation! Blood is precious because it can only be stored for a limited time before being used. Hence there is a permanent requirement for regular blood donations from healthy blood donors to meet the demand for safe blood, whenever, wherever the need. So don’t you think these blood donors who do unpaid voluntary service are to be saluted? June 14th is celebrated as blood donor’s day by WHO to commemorate these unsung heroes who take out time to help total strangers with their blood.
Donating blood is truly the gift of life. It makes a positive difference in your communities. Heroes are not people who do one good or great deed but are actually people who repeat their great action and deeds throughout their life. This precisely described blood donors, some of them who continue donating for life. The everyday hero responds to an immediate need, whatever the conditions, despite inconveniences, putting needs of others above their own. By choosing to donate blood without getting paid, these individuals commit a “heroic” act, a gesture of human solidarity with the power to save lives.
We should pay a special tribute to honor voluntary blood donors. How can we do that? There is a saying that “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” Considering the example blood donors set- why not join them? Step out today and save lives! Donate blood without any expectations. Appreciate people who work unpaid and voluntarily to give blood, playing a big role in the mission to save lives. Be like them… it’s a win-win scenario, so why not?
***BE A BLOOD DONOR, BE A HERO, ALL IT COSTS IS A LITTLE LOVE. ***
